What We Did:
This meeting was a collaboration discussion between Greening of Streaming and CORA AI to explore potential partnerships around measuring the energy impact of video streaming technologies. Ben Schwarz from Greening of Streaming presented their REM (Remote Energy Measurement) platform and WattLab tools, which measure energy consumption at the device level using plug-based measurements and can analyze video quality and energy usage tradeoffs.
Cat and Don from CORA AI demonstrated their video optimization technology that reduces data requirements by approximately 30% while maintaining quality through patented AI shaping algorithms that smooth “bursty” network traffic patterns. The teams discussed conducting joint testing to measure the energy impact of CORA AI’s traffic shaping technology, with plans to use Ben’s existing test rig in Colorado that includes Google TVs and other devices to run side-by-side A-B testing comparing energy consumption with and without CORA AI’s optimization. They agreed to start with lab-based testing using Ben’s existing infrastructure before potentially deploying software images to other devices, with Sky Peak Technologies’ Lead Software Developer, Marc Fiot and Ben planning to coordinate offline to set up the initial testing environment.

The team at Sky Peak Technologies and at Greening of Streaming will work to prepare the lab for A/B testing.
